Anderlecht’s Ashimeru contemplates contract extension: Agent speaks out

Anderlecht's Ashimeru contemplates contract extension: Agent speaks out

Majeed Ashimeru’s future at Anderlecht has been the subject of speculation amid his limited playing time, prompting his agent, Zouhair Essikal, to address the situation.

Despite enduring a challenging period, Ashimeru appears to be finding his footing within the Anderlecht squad.

However, his recent resurgence has only fueled rumors regarding his tenure at the club, prompting his agent to provide insight into the matter.

With playing opportunities dwindling for the Ghanaian midfielder, having made just six appearances since the beginning of 2024, questions surrounding his future loom large.

Essikal emphasized the importance of the next three matches in determining the direction of negotiations with the club.

“If he stays, we will have to sign a new contract. We are waiting for these last three matches to begin negotiations with the club,” stated Essikal, underscoring the pivotal juncture in Ashimeru’s career trajectory.

Reflecting on past opportunities, Essikal disclosed that Ashimeru had been poised for a potential departure during the winter transfer window.

However, Anderlecht intervened, signaling their desire to retain the midfielder’s services.

“There were already concrete avenues in winter, but after his performances at the African Cup, Anderlecht didn’t want to let him go,” revealed Essikal, hinting at the club’s decision to block potential transfers.

Despite this, Essikal emphasized the possibility of exploring alternative options in the future.

With Ashimeru’s current contract extending until June 2025, negotiations for a contract extension hang in the balance.

The 26-year-old Ghanaian has made 15 appearances this season, with four starts, showcasing glimpses of his talent amidst sporadic opportunities on the field.

As discussions unfold between Ashimeru’s representatives and Anderlecht, the outcome of the forthcoming matches will undoubtedly shape the midfielder’s future trajectory at the Belgian club.
