Anass Salah-Eddine joins Panathinaikos from Roma on loan

Moroccan-Dutch defender Anass Salah-Eddine has joined Panathinaikos from Roma on a season-long loan, moving to the Greek Super League club on 14 September 2026.

The 24-year-old left-back will remain with Panathinaikos until 30 June 2027, when the agreement provides for his return to Roma. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the loan.

Salah-Eddine arrives in Athens after spending the 2025-26 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he was part of the squad that won the Dutch championship. He returned to Roma at the end of June before moving on again at the start of the new campaign.

The switch to Panathinaikos gives Salah-Eddine a new setting after a period in which his recent club career has included football in Italy and the Netherlands. He joined Roma from FC Twente in February 2025 in a permanent transfer worth €8.5m, following his move from Ajax to Twente a year earlier for €750,000.

Born in Amsterdam, Salah-Eddine came through the Netherlands youth system and won the European Under-17 Championship in 2019. He also collected the Dutch Under-19 title and Dutch Under-19 Youth Cup with Ajax Amsterdam’s under-19 side that year.

At international level, he has Moroccan honours after helping the country win the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. His international background reflects his Moroccan and Dutch nationality, while his club career has developed through the Dutch academy system before taking him abroad.

Salah-Eddine is a left-footed defender whose previous senior clubs include Ajax, FC Twente, Roma and PSV. His arrival adds a player with experience of domestic football in the Netherlands and Italy to Panathinaikos’ squad for the 2026-27 season.

The move also represents the latest stage of a career that began at AFC’s youth setup after early development with Pancratius and AZ Alkmaar. He joined Ajax’s youth ranks in 2018 and progressed through the club’s under-17, under-19 and under-21 teams before establishing himself in senior football.

Anass Salah-Eddine has therefore completed a loan move from Roma to Panathinaikos, with the agreement running until 30 June 2027.
