Anas Wael criticises Zamalek management after sudden first-team exit decision

Zamalek youngster Anas Wael has sparked a fresh controversy at the Egyptian giants after publicly criticising the club’s management following a dispute over his future with the first team.

The 2005-born player revealed that he was informed he would not continue with the first team just days before the close of the summer registration window, despite having spent 14 years within Zamalek’s ranks.

In a statement published on his official Facebook account, Anas said he was initially left out of the club’s first registration list, a decision that effectively made him a free agent and allowed him to negotiate with other clubs without restrictions.

According to the player, Zamalek officials later contacted him and admitted that his exclusion had been a mistake. He said the club subsequently assured him that he remained an important part of its plans and was considered one of its own players.

Following those assurances, Anas returned to the team’s training camp and turned down offers from other clubs, choosing to remain at Zamalek because of his long-standing connection with the club.

However, the young midfielder said subsequent developments forced him to break his silence and speak publicly about the situation.

Anas indicated that he would reveal further details about what he experienced during his time at the club in the coming period, without providing specifics about the latest developments.

He ended his message with the words, “God is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs,” further highlighting his frustration over the situation.

The controversy comes as Zamalek continue preparations for the new season and work to finalise their squad ahead of the close of the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, the Zamalek board, led by president Hussein Labib, remains determined to retain Brazilian winger Juan Bezerra.

The club has reportedly rejected approaches for Bezerra during the current transfer window as the management seeks to preserve its core squad and prevent the departure of key players before the start of the new campaign.

Zamalek are therefore facing a delicate period as they attempt to balance squad restructuring with their desire to retain players considered important to the team’s plans for the upcoming season.
