CAF Provides Explanation for Amr Fahmy’s Dismissal
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially addressed the dismissal of its general secretary, Amr Fahmy.
In a press release issued five days after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee, the Egyptian football official was removed from his post for “serious misconduct.” The statement offered no additional details regarding the nature of the alleged misconduct.
The announcement comes amid widespread international reports linking CAF President Ahmad to accusations of corruption, embezzlement for personal gain, and sexual harassment—claims that Fahmy had reportedly brought to light. However, the CAF press release made no mention of these allegations against the president.
Fahmy’s position has been filled by Moroccan Mouad Hajji, who now assumes the role of general secretary.
In addition to the personnel change, CAF announced plans for an external organizational and financial audit, signaling a move toward greater transparency and accountability within the continental body.
