Burkina Faso coach Amir Abdou has addressed concerns over the form of winger Dango Ouattara following a friendly 1-1 draw against Guinea-Bissau, noting a decline in sharpness as the match progressed.

Ouattara, a key figure for the Stallions, contributed positively early on, including delivering a quality cross for Burkina Faso’s goal. However, Abdou observed a drop in performance in the latter stages of the game.

“Regarding Dango, he had some opportunities. He delivered a good cross for the goal. After that, his form dipped,” the coach said in the post-match press conference.

The decline in the 24-year-old’s energy was also evident to the supporters in the stadium, though no further substitutions could be made as the team had already used all of its changes by the 70th minute.

Abdou stressed that Ouattara was not solely responsible for the team’s struggles, highlighting that improvements would need to be made collectively.

“We couldn’t make any more changes because we’d already made all the substitutions. He lacked a bit of freshness towards the end. I don’t think he’s solely responsible.

It’s the team as a whole, even though he’s part of that team. He did some good things. There are things we need to work on together with him,” Abdou explained.

Ouattara has been a regular fixture for Burkina Faso, earning 38 caps and scoring 12 goals. At club level, he is contracted to FC Brentford until June 2030, having joined the English side in the 2025 summer transfer window.

This season, the Ouagadougou native has contributed five goals and seven assists in 25 Premier League appearances, demonstrating his ongoing importance for both club and country.

Abdou’s comments underline the importance of collective improvement for the Stallions, while recognizing Ouattara’s role as a key contributor in Burkina Faso’s squad as they continue preparations ahead of future international competitions.
