Amine Gouiri strike earns Marseille hard-fought win over Auxerre
Olympique Marseille had to dig deep at the Orange Vélodrome, but Amine Gouiri’s late strike was enough to secure a narrow 1–0 victory over Auxerre and extend their winning run in Ligue 1.
The result gave Marseille a third consecutive league win and strengthened their push for a top-three finish.
The first half was short on clear chances, with both sides struggling to find any real rhythm in the final third. Marseille went closest before the break when Mason Greenwood fired over from the edge of the box, while Timothy Weah saw a promising effort blocked as frustrations slowly grew in the stands.
Auxerre nearly silenced the home crowd just before the hour mark when Kevin Danois found space inside the area, only to blaze over the bar. Moments later, Igor Paixao tried his luck from distance as Marseille pushed harder for a breakthrough.
Their persistence finally paid off with just over 10 minutes remaining, as substitute Gouiri reacted quickest to a rebound in the box and stabbed home the winner. Auxerre thought they had rescued a late point through Bryan Okoh, but his effort was ruled out for handball, sealing a tense but vital Marseille victory.
