Amine Gouiri ruled out as Algeria suffer second international-break departure

Algeria forward Amine Gouiri will miss the remainder of the current international break after suffering a left-thigh injury.

The Marseille striker was involved as Algeria began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Zambia in the opening round.

The Algerian Football Federation confirmed Gouiri’s injury but did not provide further details about its severity.

Gouiri is the second player to leave Algeria’s camp during the international break, following Manchester City defender Rayan Ait-Nouri.

No reason was given for Ait-Nouri’s departure. However, reports suggested it followed a disagreement with Algeria manager Ibrahim Hamdani after the player was not involved in the match against Zambia.

Algeria will face Burundi next Tuesday in the second round of qualifying, with Hamdani’s side currently top of the group on three points. They lead Togo on goal difference.

The team are also scheduled to play a friendly against Niger on 6 October during the current international window.
