After nearly three weeks sidelined by a knee injury sustained against Angers, Amine Gouiri is set to return to the Stade Rennais squad for their Ligue 1 fixture against OGC Nice on Friday.
The Algerian international’s recovery provides a significant boost for Rennes ahead of this key encounter on matchday 16.
Gouiri, who missed the Coupe de France victory over Bordeaux on December 22, was a late inclusion in coach Jorge Sampaoli’s squad.
The striker’s availability was uncertain until the final moments of preparation. “The squad is complete apart from Amine Gouiri, who is not fully recovered.
We will make a decision at the last minute,” Sampaoli revealed during a press conference on Thursday.
Despite a relatively modest return of two goals in 15 league appearances this season, Gouiri remains a crucial figure in Rennes’ attacking setup.
His presence adds depth and versatility as the team faces off against OGC Nice, a side featuring his compatriots Hicham Boudaoui and Bedredine Bouanani.
The 24-year-old’s return comes at a pivotal time for Rennes, as they look to consolidate their position in Ligue 1 and maintain their push for European qualification.
With Gouiri back in action, the squad will aim to deliver a strong performance against a familiar adversary in OGC Nice, setting the stage for an intriguing contest at Roazhon Park.
