Amine Gouiri set to return for Marseille after injury
Amine Gouiri is expected to recover in time to return to the Marseille squad for their Ligue 1 match against Troyes after suffering a quadriceps injury while on international duty with Algeria.
The forward was forced to leave Algeria’s 3 1 win over Zambia in the 18th minute during their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Medical examinations later confirmed muscle discomfort in his left quadriceps, prompting him to leave the national team camp and return to Marseille for treatment.
Gouiri is now entering an important stage of his recovery as Marseille prepare for the return of domestic football.
According to L’Équipe and Ouest-France, the injury is not currently expected to prevent the forward from featuring when Marseille travel to ESTAC Troyes on 11 October.
That would be a significant boost for coach Bruno Genesio, who could have one of his most productive attacking players available again after the international break.
Gouiri had made an impressive start to the season before the injury. He scored four goals and provided one assist in his first five Ligue 1 appearances, establishing himself as an important attacking option for Marseille.
His early return from Algeria duty means the club’s medical team can now oversee his rehabilitation and monitor his progress ahead of the next league fixture.
The situation will also be watched closely by Algeria, with Gouiri’s recovery potentially allowing him to return to international duty for future fixtures.
Gouiri was not the only Marseille player to suffer an injury while representing Algeria during the international break.
Himad Abdelli also picked up an injury while playing for the national team against Burundi.
The midfielder is dealing with an injury to his left ankle, although initial reports suggest that the problem is not considered serious.
Abdelli’s condition will be assessed over the coming days as Marseille await his return to the club.
The midfielder’s recovery could also be monitored with the possibility of a return to competitive action in mind, while there remains hope that he could be available for Algeria before their friendly against Niger next Tuesday.
For Marseille, the priority is now to assess both players as the club prepares to resume its Ligue 1 campaign.
Gouiri’s expected return against Troyes would provide Genesio with another attacking option after the forward’s strong opening to the season.
The Algerian’s progress will continue to be monitored in Marseille, but the current outlook suggests the injury should not keep him out for an extended perio
