Amine Bassi: Former Houston Dynamo Playmaker Signs for Panetolikos on Free Transfer

Panetolikos have signed attacking midfielder Amine Bassi on a free transfer after the 28-year-old left Houston Dynamo earlier this year. The Moroccan-French playmaker has agreed a contract with the Greek Super League 1 side running until 30 June 2028.

Bassi, who was born in Bezons, France, had been without a club since departing Major League Soccer outfit Houston, where he moved in January 2023 from FC Metz. His arrival adds top-flight and international club competition experience to Panetolikos midfield, with the right-footed attacker primarily operating in the No. 10 role.

The 1.73m midfielder brings a substantial body of experience from France, England and the United States. He has made more than 100 appearances in Ligue 2, scoring 24 goals and providing 16 assists, and featured in both Ligue 1 and the English Championship earlier in his career. During a loan spell at Barnsley from Metz in the 2021-22 season, he contributed goals and assists in 15 Championship matches.

In MLS, Bassi played 88 league games for Houston, scoring 15 goals and supplying 12 assists, and also featured in the Leagues Cup, MLS Cup Playoffs and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. He was part of the Houston side that won the US Open Cup in the 2022-23 campaign, adding silverware to his resume.

Bassi joined Panetolikos on 8 July 2026 and will now look to establish himself in Greeces top tier over the course of his two-year deal.
