Amine Adli is set to make his return for Bayer 04 Leverkusen after a lengthy injury layoff, boosting the squad ahead of their DFB Cup clash against FC Köln on Wednesday.
The Moroccan winger, who last played in October, has recovered from his broken fabric breach and is back in contention.
“He is fit. We missed him in the last three to four months. But he is back and we are happy that he is with us,” said head coach Xabi Alonso, confirming Adli’s readiness for limited minutes. While Alonso believes a full match would be premature, he sees the attacker fit for a 20 to 30-minute cameo.
The Leverkusen boss anticipates Adli’s return will inject much-needed “speed” and “dynamics” into the team. Known for his explosiveness and aggressive runs, Adli has a natural hunger for goals.
It remains uncertain whether Alonso will utilize him in the cup tie, but by Saturday’s Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg, Adli is expected to reclaim his place in the squad.
