Amina Orfi and Karim Abdel Gawad reach Qatar Classic squash semi-finals

Egyptian players Amina Orfi and Karim Abdel Gawad have reached the semi-finals of the Qatar Classic in Doha, which continues until Friday.

Orfi defeated fellow Egyptian Fayrouz Aboelkheir 3-0 in a match lasting 45 minutes. She edged the opening game 13-11 before taking the second 11-8 and the third 12-10.

Abdel Gawad also secured a straight-games victory, beating compatriot Youssef Soliman in a contest that lasted 83 minutes.

He made a strong start by winning the first game 11-4, but had to work hard to complete the victory, taking the next two 12-10 and 15-13.

The results mean four Egyptian players will compete in the Qatar Classic semi-finals.

The last-four matches are scheduled for Thursday afternoon, with the opening tie between Hania Hamamy and Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam beginning at 16:00.

Orfi will then face England’s Jasmine Hutton at 16:45, before Mostafa Asal takes on England’s Marwan El Shorbagy at 17:30.

Abdel Gawad’s semi-final against France’s Victor Crouin is scheduled for 18:15.
