Algerian striker Amin Chiakha set to return after training injury scare
Rosenborg have been handed a timely fitness boost after early indications suggested striker Amin Chiakha avoided a serious knee injury sustained during training ahead of this weekend’s league fixture against Lillestrøm SK.
The 20-year-old Algerian international sparked concern after picking up a knock to his knee during Wednesday’s training session, raising fears that his impressive recent run of form could be brought to an abrupt end.
However, the initial medical assessment has offered reassurance, with the injury not believed to be serious.
Chiakha has been one of Rosenborg’s standout performers in recent weeks, scoring seven goals in his last eight appearances across all competitions.
His goalscoring form has made him a key figure for the Norwegian club, making the training incident a worrying moment for both the player and the coaching staff.
Despite those concerns, Rosenborg now expect the striker to return to training as soon as Friday, provided the final medical checks confirm the positive early diagnosis.
The club remains optimistic that he will be available for Sunday’s meeting with Lillestrøm SK.
Head coach Freyr Alexandersson also sought to ease fears following the incident, indicating that the injury is unlikely to keep the forward out for an extended period.
“It’s nothing serious. I think he’ll train tomorrow, but we’re still waiting for confirmation from the MRI.”
The update comes as a major relief for Rosenborg, who have relied heavily on Chiakha’s attacking contributions during his outstanding spell in front of goal. His recent performances have established him as one of the club’s most influential attacking players and reinforced his growing reputation at both domestic and international level.
Chiakha also admitted the injury initially caused him anxiety, particularly given the momentum he has built over recent weeks. However, the striker revealed he is already feeling much more positive after receiving encouraging feedback from the club’s medical staff.
“When it comes to the knee, you’re bound to worry a little. It’s even more frustrating when you’re going through a good period, as is the case for me right now. I was annoyed and a bit frustrated, but today I feel better, and that’s the most important thing.”
With no major damage expected, Rosenborg can now focus on preparing for Sunday’s encounter knowing their in-form striker is likely to remain available.
Should he complete his return to training without complications, Chiakha will have another opportunity to continue the goalscoring streak that has seen him register seven goals in his last eight matches and become one of the club’s most decisive players.
The coming days will determine his availability, but the latest update has significantly eased fears that the injury would interrupt one of the best periods of his young career.
