Nimes midfielder Komlan Amewou is approaching the new Ligue 2 season with renewed optimism after a frustrating last campaign at the club.
In an exclusive interview, the Togo international said he has a point to prove this term after struggling for game time under former coach Thierry Froger.
“I feel good compared to last year when I played very little and the coach had very little confidence in me,” the 28-year-old told AfricaSoccer.com.
“Today, I have all the cards in hand to prove my talent. It was up to me to show him and everyone else that I was better than that.”
Amewou believes new manager Victor Zvunka, who returned for a third spell at Nimes this summer, presents a clean slate for the team’s underused talents.
“He is a gentleman that everyone in our workforce knows. A high quality manager so he doesn’t need to talk much before the players know what he wants,” Amewou said.
While promotion is not an immediate priority, the midfielder feels Nimes can target a bright season if they make a strong start.
Amewou also addressed the recent departure of veteran winger Stephane Dalmat, saying it was the right decision for both parties.
With the new Ligue 2 campaign days away, Amewou’s exclusive interview shed light on the mood at Nimes and his own determination to finally flourish this term.
