Amer Hussein, a member of the board of directors of the Egyptian Football Association, has revealed the reason behind contemplating an extension of the winter registration period until the end of February.
Speaking on the Youth and Sports radio, Hussein stated, “It is natural to hold a training camp for the Egyptian national team in March as it is an international agenda, and it has been taken into account in the league schedule.
Egypt’s participation in a friendly tournament during that time will not affect the league.”
The Egyptian national team is set to participate in a friendly tournament in the United Arab Emirates in March alongside Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand.
“We have consistently stated from the beginning that the league will end on its scheduled date, which we determined from day one, which is July 30th,” he continued.
Hussein added, “The decision to extend the registration period until February has no connection to Zamalek.
It is an international federation rule that allows countries that have not fully utilized the summer registration period to compensate during the winter period.
This is due to the increase in tournaments in recent times.
Within two or three days, we will announce whether we will take advantage of that period and extend the registration or not.”
The Egyptian league is currently on hold due to the Egyptian national team’s participation in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
