Amad Diallo has spoken about the players who shaped his football journey, naming Lionel Messi as his lifelong idol and Wayne Rooney as his favourite Manchester United legend.
The Ivorian winger, who has featured in 20 Premier League games this season with two goals and two assists, says he still studies Messi closely to improve his own game.
“In my life, my idol was Messi, so I always say Messi because Messi is the player I still watch, I still try to learn from him,” Amad explained. However, his admiration at club level has long been reserved for Rooney.
“But at Man United, the player I really liked was Rooney. So when they asked me which player do you want to play, which player do you love to play in the United history, I said Rooney because he’s the player I really loved to play with,” he added.
Diallo’s blend of flair, work rate and ambition reflects those influences, as he continues to grow into a more important figure for United and build on his steady Premier League contributions this season.
