Alvarez ready to rebuild his Atletico Madrid role after transfer turmoil

Julian Alvarez has turned his attention fully to Atletico de Madrid after accepting that a move to Barcelona is no longer possible, according to Marca.

With the transfer window due to close within hours, the Argentina international has put the uncertainty behind him and begun working on a fresh start with the Madrid club.

Alvarez had also ruled out a return to the Premier League because he did not want to go back to England. Instead, he has started trying to change his situation at Atletico de Madrid, where he has received strong support from team-mates Giuliano Simeone, Cristian “Cuti” Romero and Juan Musso.

The forward offered early signs of his quality in training despite being included with the substitutes rather than the expected starting side.

Alvarez arrived on the training pitch alongside his Argentina international team-mates, with Simeone and Romero making a point of encouraging him from the beginning of the session. He initially worked outside the first-choice group, which matched the XI used by Atletico de Madrid in their most recent match against Sevilla.

However, Alvarez quickly demonstrated that he could regain his place in the team. He earned praise from members of the coaching staff after producing a notable moment towards the end of the training match.

One coach shouted: “Well done, Juli!”

Alvarez completed the session by running alongside Romero as part of a fitness programme designed to bring both players to peak condition as quickly as possible.

Marca reports that the immediate priority for both the coaching staff and Alvarez is to end the speculation surrounding him. The intention is for his performances on the pitch to become the focus, rather than questions about his future.

Alvarez was left out of Atletico de Madrid’s squad for the recent game against Sevilla after suffering an illness last week. The current plan is for him to return to the squad on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s La Liga meeting with Athletic Club.

The forward’s renewed focus comes after his hopes of joining Barcelona faded. He had considered leaving Atletico de Madrid, while a move to the Premier League was also dismissed because of his reluctance to return to England. His immediate task is now to re-establish himself within Diego Simeone’s plans.

Elsewhere, Jose Maria Gimenez and Thomas Lemar trained in the gym as Atletico de Madrid continued to look for solutions for both players on the final day of the transfer window. Their high salaries are understood to be a significant obstacle to any departure.

Carlos Martin and Obed Vargas took part in group training, while the club continued working to finalise loan destinations for the pair.
