Alphonso Davies suffers injury scare in Bayern Munich’s big win over Atalanta
Alphonso Davies has suffered another worrying setback after picking up what is believed to be a serious muscular injury during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Atalanta in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg.
The Canadian left-back came on at halftime but had to be substituted around the 70th minute after going down with a non-contact issue. Clearly in pain, he left the pitch in tears, a sight that will concern both Bayern and Canada fans.
This latest problem comes at a difficult time for Davies, who had only returned to action in December following a long spell out with an ACL injury.
He also missed Bayern’s last two Bundesliga games after tearing a muscle fibre in his thigh, underlining how disrupted his season has been by fitness issues.
The 25-year-old will now undergo further tests as Bayern’s medical staff assess the extent of the damage and how long he might be sidelined. Given his importance on the left flank, both defensively and in attack, any extended absence would be a major blow for club and country.
