Alphonce Omija: MC Algiers linked with ES Sahel defender
Kenyan centre-back Alphonce Omija is the subject of a reported move from Tunisia’s ES Sahel to Algerian club MC Algiers.
Omija, 23, joined ES Sahel from Kenyan side Gor Mahia in September 2025 and has a contract with the Tunisian club until 30 June 2028. The defender has established himself in ES Sahel’s first-team squad, making 16 appearances in Ligue 1 this season and playing 1,412 minutes.
The reported interest comes with Omija’s listed market value at €300,000, although no transfer fee has been disclosed and there is no confirmation that negotiations have taken place.
Born in Nairobi, Omija began his senior career with Kariobangi before returning to Gor Mahia and later moving abroad. He joined Oman’s Dhofar Club in February 2023 and helped them win the Omanian Cup in 2024, before returning to Kenya on a free transfer in July that year.
His European-style club record this season also includes four appearances in the CAF Champions League, where he has scored once, and two appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup. However, his current focus remains ES Sahel, who signed him less than a year ago.
The rumour links him with a move between clubs competing in the top flight of their respective countries, but Omija remains under contract at ES Sahel through June 2028.
