Alou Diarra Leaves West Ham, Eyes Possible Return to France
Alou Diarra is no longer a West Ham player after the French midfielder mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the Premier League club. The 32-year-old, formerly of Marseille, is now a free agent and reportedly considering a return to French football.
In an interview with Footmercato, Diarra expressed openness to offers but emphasized that sporting considerations take precedence over financial ones. “A return to France is possible, it’s conceivable. I’m not ruling out a return to France, it all depends on what’s offered to me. I’m open to all offers, I’m in good physical condition. I’m prioritizing sport, not obsessed with financial matters. I want to share my high-level experience,” he said. He also mentioned that he would consult his lawyer to make the best decision about the next steps in his career.
West Ham confirmed the release in an official statement on their website last Wednesday, noting that the contract termination was amicable. Diarra joined the Hammers in 2012 from Marseille but struggled to make an impact, featuring in just six league games during his time at the club.
With his Premier League stint behind him, Diarra now looks set to continue his career elsewhere, with France appearing as a likely destination.
