Former Nigeria international Alloy Agu has expressed strong confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to defeat Rwanda and Zimbabwe in their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.
Nigeria’s campaign is under immense pressure, with the team currently sitting second from bottom in Group C, having collected just three points from four matches.
To revive their qualification hopes, they must secure victories in both upcoming fixtures.
A tough qualification battle
Rwanda currently lead the group with seven points, ahead of South Africa and Benin, who also have seven points but trail on goal difference.
Lesotho sit fourth with five points, while Zimbabwe are at the bottom with two.
Nigeria, with only three points, find themselves in a precarious position, making their next two matches vital for their World Cup ambitions.
Speaking to Completesports.com, Agu emphasized the importance of approaching each game with absolute determination.
The two games are crucial as they will determine the fate of the Super Eagles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers,” he said. I expect the players to approach these games as if their lives depend on it because Nigeria must qualify for the World Cup.
No room for mistakes
Agu, who was Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, believes the Super Eagles must treat every remaining qualifier like a final.
I am very optimistic that we will dominate Rwanda and Zimbabwe, although it will not be easy,” he added. “At this stage, every game should be treated as a cup final. No more excuses.
Nigeria’s next fixture will be against group leaders Rwanda in Kigali, a match that could prove decisive in shaping the rest of their qualification journey.
With time running out, the Super Eagles will need to find their best form quickly to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
