Allegri refuses post-match interview for first time in 25 years after Napoli draw

Massimiliano Allegri declined to speak to the media after Napoli’s match against Roma, saying he was not in the right frame of mind to discuss the game.

The Napoli manager told DAZN: “I am not in a position to talk right now. For the first time in 25 years, I will not give clear answers about the match, so I apologise, but I have to say good night.”

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Allegri also angrily addressed members of his coaching staff after the game.

“Last season they put the Champions League in Roma’s pocket,” he reportedly said. “They are always the same. I paid the price myself with Milan.”

The draw extended Roma’s wait for a victory over Napoli to six matches.

Roma’s last win against the southern club came during the 2023-24 season, when the Giallorossi defeated Napoli 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Napoli have since recorded two victories, while the other four meetings have ended in draws.

Allegri was sent off during the latest match for protesting against the referee’s decisions.

The result leaves Roma third in the Serie A table on 18 points, while Napoli move to 11 points in ninth place.
