The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is all set for the draw of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The much-anticipated event will take place on Friday, November 22, at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Salé, Morocco. The draw is scheduled to begin at 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT).
Tournament Overview
The 13th edition of WAFCON will feature 12 of Africa’s top teams, who will be divided into three groups of four. The tournament is slated to run from July 5 to July 26, 2025, in Morocco.
Defending champions South Africa, who clinched their first title in Morocco in 2022, will look to defend their crown against a field of talented teams, including perennial favourites Nigeria and host nation Morocco.
Team Seeding
CAF has grouped the 12 qualified teams into four levels based on their FIFA rankings, ensuring a balanced draw:
- Level 1: Morocco (host), Nigeria, South Africa
- Level 2: Zambia, Ghana, Tunisia
- Level 3: Mali, Senegal, Algeria
- Level 4: DR Congo, Tanzania, Botswana
Morocco will occupy position A1 as hosts, while defending champions South Africa and Nigeria will take positions C1 and B1, respectively.
Draw Procedures
Teams from Levels 2, 3, and 4 will be allocated into Groups A, B, and C using three separate pots. This systematic approach ensures fair distribution, creating balanced group stages and setting the stage for an exciting tournament.
A Tournament of Promise
As Africa’s premier women’s football competition, WAFCON 2025 promises thrilling matches and a showcase of talent. The draw will determine the matchups that will captivate fans across the continent and beyond.
