Alioune Lindo Diop shines in Luxembourg City breakthrough season

Senegalese forward Alioune Lindo Diop has been nominated for the Ligue PH Player of the Season award in Luxembourg following an impressive campaign with Luxembourg City.

The striker, who joined the club in July 2025 after a spell with Racing FC Union Luxembourg, has made a strong impact in his debut season, establishing himself as one of the most influential attacking players in the squad.

Diop has recorded more than 20 goal contributions across all competitions, underlining his consistency in front of goal and his growing importance to the team’s attacking structure.

In the league alone, he has scored nine goals in Luxembourg’s second tier, adding further weight to his nomination for individual recognition.

One of his standout performances came in February, when he scored a hat-trick in a dominant display against FC Mondercange, a match that highlighted his finishing ability and attacking movement inside the box.

Since arriving in Luxembourg in 2023 on a two-year deal, Diop has steadily progressed through the domestic system. After his initial spell, he moved to Racing FC Union Luxembourg in 2024 before completing his switch to Luxembourg City a year later, where his development has continued at pace.

His performances have also played a key role in keeping Luxembourg City competitive in the upper half of the table.

The club currently sits fifth in the Division of Honour standings, just six points behind the promotion places with three matches remaining in the season.

Diop’s nomination places him among the leading performers in the league and reflects his growing reputation in Luxembourg football.

His ability to consistently contribute goals and assists has made him a central figure in his team’s attacking play throughout the campaign.

As the season approaches its conclusion, attention will turn to whether he can cap his strong individual performances with a late push for a higher league finish and potentially secure the award.

For now, the nomination marks another step in the forward’s steady rise in European football.
