The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has officially addressed the resignation of head coach Aliou Cissé, confirming that his departure was triggered by unpaid salaries linked to ongoing financial delays within the country’s payment systems.

In a statement, the federation said Cissé’s exit had been anticipated due to outstanding financial obligations, which it attributed to delays in government fund disbursement and administrative bottlenecks, including payments being held up within state financial institutions.

The LFF noted that part of the agreed funding was eventually released, enabling the payment of several months of salaries for Cissé and his technical team. It stressed that efforts were made to resolve the situation and keep the coach in post.

Despite the financial challenges, the federation praised Cissé’s brief tenure, highlighting a strong performance record that included just one defeat during his time in charge.

Following his exit, Aliou Cissé has been announced as the new head coach of Angola on a four year deal.

Cissé is famously remembered for guiding his country, Senegal, to win their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy in Cameroon in 2021.
