Sierra Leonean talent Alie Dumbuya begins European journey
Sierra Leonean striker Alie Dumbuya has completed a move to Swedish side FC Rosengård, marking a significant step in the young forward’s career as he begins his first experience in European football.
The player, who has been identified as one of the most promising talents in the region, has already been officially unveiled by his new club. His transfer follows months of interest from several teams, with the Swedish outfit ultimately securing his signature after closely monitoring his progress.
Dumbuya, a native of Freetown, built his reputation in Guinea, where he developed steadily in recent years through performances in the Guinean Academies League (LIGUA) and various international youth competitions. His consistent displays drew attention from clubs both within Africa and across Europe.
Explaining the decision behind the move, his agent Ibrahima Djouldé Diallo said the choice of FC Rosengård was deliberate and carefully considered.
FC Rosengård’s choice was not made by chance. The club showed genuine interest in Alie, both for his sporting qualities and his potential for development. They see him as a striker capable of bringing speed, depth, and clinical finishing.
The sporting project presented by the Swedish club played a central role in convincing the player and his representatives. According to those close to him, the long-term vision and structured development plan aligned with the player’s needs at this stage of his career.
The academy’s co-founder explains:
Their ambition is to allow him to integrate gradually, to continue his training in a demanding professional environment, and then to benefit from playing time to fully express his potential. For us, it was essential that he join a club that believes in him and has a clear plan for his development.
Dumbuya’s rise has been underpinned by impressive numbers. During the 2024/25 season, he finished as the top scorer in the Guinean Academies League with 25 goals, a return that heightened interest from multiple clubs. His eventual move to Sweden is described as the result of extensive scouting and negotiations.
Ibrahima Djouldé Diallo reveals what goes on behind the scenes:
This transfer is the culmination of several months of work, observation, and networking. Thanks to his performances, particularly last season and in various talent identification competitions, Alie attracted the attention of several European clubs. FC Rosengård closely monitored his profile before engaging in in-depth discussions about the sporting project, integration conditions, and long-term vision.
And he added:
We felt this move was the ideal step for his development. He will thrive in an environment conducive to learning, gradually adapt to European football, and grow without undue pressure. It’s a coherent, ambitious decision, perfectly suited to his age and potential.
The move represents a new chapter for the striker, who is now preparing to adapt to a different footballing culture and environment. Those guiding his career believe he has the attributes required to succeed.
According to his agent:
Alie has many strengths that will help him succeed in Sweden. He is a very promising striker, clinical in front of goal, capable of using both feet, with excellent movement and finishing ability. Tactically, he understands the game well, knows how to move between the lines, and adapts to different attacking systems. Mentally, he has improved tremendously: he displays a strong personality, remains focused under pressure, and possesses a real determination to succeed.
The forward’s development has been shaped at the Sosso Academy, where he received structured and individualised coaching. His progression, according to his representatives, reflects a deliberate and disciplined approach to nurturing talent.
Ibrahima Djouldé Diallo reflects on his development:
What enabled him to reach this milestone was a methodology focused on the player’s overall development. We worked on his natural finishing qualities, but also on the demands of modern football: off-the-ball movement, positioning, pressing, playing with his back to goal, and decision-making in the final third.
Beyond his performances on the pitch, attention has also been given to his overall growth, including discipline and lifestyle, which are seen as key elements in his transition to professional football.
He states:
From the very beginning, we defined a clear progression plan with specific objectives. Discipline, high standards in training, and a healthy lifestyle were central to his development. Alie has always demonstrated a great capacity for learning and a strong desire to improve. It is this combination that has allowed him to enter the professional world.
Although he had attracted interest from clubs such as FC Copenhagen, the decision was made to prioritise a pathway considered more suitable for gradual development.
We didn’t want to rush things. The goal was for him to first establish himself in his local environment, become a key player, and then naturally attract the attention of foreign clubs. Sweden represents an excellent starting point. It’s a well-structured, formative league, ideal for a young player discovering top-level football.
Dumbuya now begins his European journey with expectations measured not only by his talent, but also by the long-term plan set out for his growth.
