Ali Mahran makes Egyptian football return with Petrol Asyut switch
Egyptian left-back Ali Mahran has joined Petrol Asyut from Dayrout SC, completing a move that takes the 31-year-old back to the club he previously represented.
Mahran’s transfer was completed on 14 August 2026, with the defender returning to Petrol Asyut after more than three years away. The move places him with a club competing in Egypt’s Premier League and marks the latest stage of his senior career.
Born in Asyut on 15 February 1995, Mahran is a naturally left-footed defender whose primary position is left-back. His return to Petrol Asyut also reconnects him with the city where he was born, adding a local dimension to his latest career move.
Mahran previously left Petrol Asyut for El Madina on 7 October 2022 in a free transfer. His time with El Madina lasted until 1 February 2023, when he joined Dayrout SC. He remained with Dayrout before switching back to Petrol Asyut at the start of the 2026-27 season.
The defender’s career path has therefore included two spells with Petrol Asyut, alongside periods at El Madina and Dayrout SC. His latest move represents a return to familiar surroundings after his spells with the two other Egyptian clubs.
Mahran’s position gives Petrol Asyut an experienced option on the left side of defence, while his left-footed profile fits the role he has occupied throughout the recorded moves of his career. At 31, he brings senior experience to a squad preparing for the new campaign.
His previous transfer to El Madina was completed without a fee, but no fee has been attached to the latest switch from Dayrout SC. The terms of Mahran’s new contract have not been stated.
The move was registered on 14 August 2026, confirming Ali Mahran’s return to Petrol Asyut from Dayrout SC.
