Ali Maaloul’s future with Al Ahly hangs in balance as contract expiry nears
Maaloul, the left-back for Al Ahly, has been a pivotal figure since joining the club officially in 2016, but speculation about his future has intensified with just eight days remaining on his current deal.
Recent days have been marked by rumors suggesting Al Ahly’s intent to extend Maaloul’s contract, particularly following his dedication and contributions before suffering an Achilles tendon injury during a crucial match against Tunisia’s Esperance in the African Champions League final.
The injury disrupted what had been a stellar career with the Red Devils, leaving the club’s management pondering over contract renewal amidst Coach Marcel Koller’s desire to potentially recruit a new foreign left-back, given the lack of a local replacement of equivalent caliber.
Currently, Maaloul remains focused on his rehabilitation program following the Achilles surgery, which he underwent after the first leg of the Champions League final in the previous season.
His recovery regimen began on June 5th, involving intensive physiotherapy sessions at the club’s gym.
