Ali Elfil brings Premier League experience to Qanah in Egypt switch

Egypt centre-back Ali Elfil has joined Qanah from Modern Sport, bringing more than a decade of top-flight experience to the Premier League club.

The 35-year-old made the move on 12 August 2026 after leaving Modern Sport, where he had been playing since joining from Talaea El Gaish in September 2022. Elfil becomes part of Qanah’s squad as an experienced defender, with his career having been spent entirely in Egyptian football.

Elfil has made 269 Premier League appearances and scored six goals. He has also featured in the Egypt Cup, CAF Confederation Cup, relegation play-offs, Egyptian League Cup and Egyptian Super Cup, giving him a substantial record across domestic and continental competitions.

His continental experience includes 13 appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup, while he has played 20 times in the Egypt Cup. Elfil has scored once in each of those competitions. He has also made 12 appearances in relegation play-offs and featured in five Egyptian League Cup matches.

The defender won the Egyptian Super Cup with Tala’ea El Gaish in the 2020-21 season. That success came during a five-year spell with the club, which began when he moved there from Harras Hodoud in July 2017.

Elfil started his senior career with T. Beni Suef before joining Harras Hodoud in September 2013. He later moved to Talaea El Gaish, where he established himself in the Egyptian top flight before switching to Modern Future, now Modern Sport, in 2022.

A right-footed centre-back, Elfil has spent the bulk of his career operating in the heart of defence. His arrival gives Qanah a player with extensive Premier League exposure and experience of several major Egyptian competitions.

Elfil’s career statistics include 322 appearances across the competitions recorded, with eight goals. His longest run of top-flight involvement has come in the Premier League, where he has accumulated 22,611 minutes.

The move also marks a new chapter for Elfil after four seasons with Modern Sport. He now continues his career with Qanah, who compete in the same division as his former club.

Elfil completed his transfer to Qanah on 12 August 2026.
