The final phase of preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Algeria’s Fennecs are set to touch down in Lomé, Togo, on Monday, January 1, 2024. The journey underscores the team’s commitment to meticulous readiness for the upcoming continental football spectacle in Ivory Coast.

Embarking on a special flight from Algiers at 9:00 GMT, Riyad Mahrez and the formidable Algerian squad are poised to land in Lomé after an estimated six-hour direct flight.

This travel day signifies a pivotal juncture in the team’s quest for peak performance, as they gear up for the challenges that lie ahead in the prestigious tournament.

Upon arrival, the Fennecs will proceed directly to their designated residence, the opulent 2 Février hotel, where they will be based for the duration of their training camp in Lomé.

The strategically located 5-star establishment, situated less than 10 km from the Kégué stadium, will serve as the hub for training sessions and team activities.

The team is scheduled to indulge in a brief period of rest upon arrival, likely followed by a recovery session to alleviate the effects of travel.

The training sessions, spearheaded by coach Djamel Belmadi, are slated to commence more earnestly on Tuesday, signifying the commencement of focused preparations.

As part of their preparatory regimen, Algeria is set to engage in two friendly matches during their stay in Lomé.

The first encounter will see them face the Togolese national team on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Kégué stadium. Subsequently, the Fennecs will lock horns with Burundi’s national team on January 9, 2024.

These fixtures are integral components of Algeria’s comprehensive preparation strategy as they gear up for AFCON 2023, slated to unfold in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.

Algeria, positioned in Group D alongside Angola, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso, aspires to build on their previous successes and make a formidable impact on the continental stage.

The journey to Lomé marks the initiation of this critical phase, with football enthusiasts globally anticipating the Fennecs’ performance in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
