Fares Chaibi, the winger for the Algerian national team, emphasized the mission of the new coach, Vladimir Petkovic, ahead of their encounter with South Africa on Tuesday in the Algeria International Friendly Tournament.
He stated that the primary objective for Petkovic is to discover more talent within the team.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Chaibi acknowledged the formidable challenge awaiting them against the South African squad, renowned for its talented players and significant reputation in African football.
He expressed the team’s commitment to delivering their best performance while remaining attentive to the developments on the field.
“We face an exceedingly tough task against the South African national team, which boasts exceptional players and holds a prominent reputation in African football.
We will do our utmost and wait to see what unfolds,” Chaibi remarked.
Regarding the training sessions under the new coach’s guidance, Chaibi highlighted the collective effort to familiarize themselves with Petkovic’s strategies.
He noted that coaches at this stage aim to acquaint themselves with their players extensively, often experimenting with various squad combinations.
“We have engaged in some training sessions under the leadership of the new coach.
At this stage, all coaches seek to get to know their players better and strive to test as many players as possible,” Chaibi explained.
Chaibi also commented on the experience of playing alongside newcomers like Joan Hadjam and Haj Moussa, along with Brahimi, a seasoned player with over a decade-long tenure in the national team.
He emphasized the importance of unity within the squad, aiming to build a cohesive and robust team.
“It’s a beautiful thing to play alongside newcomers like Joan Hadjam and Haj Moussa, as well as Brahimi, who has been in the national team for over 10 years.
The most crucial aspect for us is to be a strong unit,” Chaibi concluded.
