Algeria’s 2025 AFCON squad gets shakeup with Said Benrahma’s return

Algeria’s national team is undergoing changes ahead of the 2025 AFCON after Youcef BelaIli’s injury forced coach Vladimir Petkovic to rethink his plans.

Sports analyst Lamine Benchabir noted the coach’s “very personal logic,” with Petkovic recalling Said Benrahma as Belaili’s replacement, while still omitting Boulbina from ES Tunis, despite his consistent club performances. Benchabir commented, “Petković sees things we don’t; he always keeps Zerrouki and Zorgane, regardless of circumstances.”

Although criticism targets these two midfielders, Petkovic remains fully confident in them, a choice that sparks debate as the race for midfield spots intensifies ahead of AFCON.
