Algerian winger Billal Brahimi reaches agreement to join Santos in Brazil
Algerian winger Billal Brahimi has reached an agreement to continue his career in Brazil, with Santos set to secure his signature on a contract running until December 2026.
The 25-year-old, who has been a free agent since parting ways with OGC Nice at the end of the summer transfer window, is expected to travel to Brazil in the coming days to complete a medical before the deal is finalised.
Sources close to the negotiations indicate that both sides have reached a verbal agreement, leaving only formalities before an official announcement is made.
Santos, one of the country’s most iconic clubs, has been actively seeking reinforcements in attack and identified Brahimi as a player capable of strengthening their options.
After several weeks of assessment and internal discussions, head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda gave his approval for the signing.
The club’s technical staff believe the Algerian international can provide the width, pace and creativity needed to revive a side still striving to rediscover the success that once made it a household name in world football.
Brahimi’s career has already taken him across multiple leagues. Born and trained in France, he had an early spell in England with Middlesbrough before establishing himself in Ligue 1.
He represented Reims and Angers before moving to Nice in 2022 in a transfer worth close to €7 million.
His time on the French Riviera, however, proved inconsistent, leading to his decision to terminate his contract and seek a fresh start elsewhere.
On the international stage, Brahimi has been part of Algeria’s plans since 2022. He has earned four caps for the Fennecs and featured in qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations, though competition for places in the national squad has limited his opportunities.
A move to South America may offer him the platform to reignite his career and re-establish his credentials at international level.
For Santos, the deal carries both strategic and symbolic value. The club, which boasts a history of producing stars such as Pelé and Neymar, has endured mixed fortunes in recent seasons and sees Brahimi’s arrival as a chance to inject new energy into their frontline.
Known for his ability to operate on either wing, the Algerian brings versatility and experience that the coaching staff hope will translate into greater attacking threat.
Supporters of Santos, renowned for their passion and high expectations, are likely to watch closely as Brahimi adapts to his new environment.
Brazilian football presents a unique challenge, and the intensity of the domestic competition will test his adaptability and resilience.
Yet, for Brahimi, the move represents an opportunity to embrace a new culture, a new style of football, and a chance to prove himself once more on a demanding stage.
If all procedures are completed smoothly, the winger will soon be unveiled as the club’s latest signing.
The prospect of sharing the pitch with Neymar, who remains the club’s most recognisable figure, adds further intrigue to a transfer that underlines Santos’ determination to climb back towards the summit of Brazilian football.
For Brahimi, this agreement opens a new chapter far from Europe, offering the chance to relaunch his career under the Brazilian sun. For Santos, it is a bold investment in a player whose skill set may help spark a long-awaited revival.
