With the Africa Cup of Nations fast approaching, Mohamed Amine Amoura is hitting form at just the right time, adding his sixth league goal of the season in Wolfsburg’s 3-1 away victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Deployed as the central striker, the Algerian watched his side take an early lead before the hosts levelled through an unfortunate own goal by one of his teammates.

Amoura restored Wolfsburg’s advantage in the 30th minute with a move that underlined both his awareness and killer instinct. He first received the ball on the right flank and quickly laid it off to his winger, who sent a cross into the box; when the defence only half-cleared it, Amoura pounced on the loose ball in the middle and finished clinically to make it 2-1.

Wolfsburg went on to seal the win 3-1, a result that pulled them to within a single point of Gladbach and lifted them into 11th place in the Bundesliga table. For Amoura, the goal is another strong signal to Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic that he is ready to play a major role at the upcoming AFCON
