lgerian international Mohamed Bachir Belloumi is set to miss the upcoming national team matches after sustaining a potentially serious knee injury during Hull City’s recent clash with Oxford United in the English Championship. Speculation is mounting over a possible torn ACL, which could mean an extended spell on the sidelines for the promising young talent.
On Thursday, Belloumi took to Instagram to confirm his absence from the squad after the injury news.
Posting a story that included the Algerian national team list for their November fixtures against Equatorial Guinea and Liberia, he wrote, “This is the decree of Allah and He does what He wants… Good luck to the national team.”
The 21-year-old expressed clear disappointment over his inability to join his national teammates, as he had hoped to be part of the squad for at least one, if not both, of the fixtures.
These games against Equatorial Guinea and Liberia are part of Algeria’s campaign in Group E for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
With Belloumi’s absence confirmed, the team faces the challenge of filling his position as they look to secure points in these crucial encounters.
The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) issued an official statement later on Thursday regarding Belloumi’s injury status.
According to the FAF, after consulting with the national team’s medical team, it was determined that Belloumi, initially called up by coach Vladimir Petkovic, would be unable to participate in the November training camp.
An MRI scan conducted earlier in the day confirmed the extent of his injury, which will prevent him from joining the squad.
The FAF’s statement read: “After being called up by Vladimir Petkovic for this month’s gathering, Belloumi will not participate in the training camp.
An MRI scan carried out on Thursday confirmed his injury, making his participation impossible.”
The absence of Belloumi, who has been a rising star for both club and country, comes as a setback for the Fennecs as they prepare for the qualifiers.
🚨 More horrific injury news for @HullCity as I understand winger Mohamed Belloumi has suffered an ACL problem that will rule him out for the remainder of the season.
A cruel blow for a side that have already lost Liam Miller to the same injury.#hcafc (1/2)👇🏻
