Algerian defender Rafik Belghali is attracting significant attention from top European clubs following a standout season with Belgian side KV Mechelen in the Jupiler Pro League.
The 22-year-old right-back, who has represented Algeria at U23 level, has emerged as one of the league’s brightest talents, prompting a bidding war among several well-established clubs.
According to reports from Africasoccer, Toulouse (France), Augsburg (Germany), Hellas Verona (Italy), and Ajax Amsterdam (Netherlands) are all in the race to secure his services, along with domestic rival KRC Genk.
Belghali’s meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed in Belgium. After an impressive campaign where his dynamic displays in defence and attack caught the eye, he now stands on the brink of a high-profile move.
Genk, in particular, have identified him as a primary target to replace Moroccan full-back Zakaria El Ouahdi. However, with El Ouahdi’s transfer yet to be finalised, Genk have momentarily paused their pursuit of Belghali.

Belghali’s football journey began at just seven years old when he joined the youth academy of Saint-Trond in 2009. To date, Belghali has made 90 professional appearances, tallying 16 goal contributions across all competitions—a remarkable output for a defender.
