Minister of Communication, Mohamed La’qab, disclosed concerns over the unbridled state of sports journalism.
He emphasized the necessity of upholding professionalism and avoiding sensationalism to prevent strained relationships.
During a meeting with sports journalists, attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, La’qab underscored the importance of abiding by laws governing both print and electronic media.
He stated that the media should refrain from succumbing to misleading and inaccurate news, particularly in the wake of Algeria’s unexpected early exit from AFCON.
The Minister of Communication pointed out that the surge in negative reports after the national team’s elimination has led to a notable escalation in sports journalism, contributing to a lack of control in reporting.
Furthermore, La’qab expressed concern that such unbridled reporting could potentially result in social tension.
He called on media outlets to adhere to the etiquette and ethical standards of the profession, urging careful selection of words when addressing sensitive topics.
The Minister also urged media professionals to familiarize themselves with media laws to prevent any inadvertent deviations.
As the law governing print and electronic media has been established, La’qab emphasized the obligation to respect and enforce it.
This commentary from the Minister of Communication underscores the importance of responsible journalism, especially in the context of emotionally charged events like the national football team’s performance on the international stage.
