Olympique de Marseille are closing in on the signing of Algerian attacking midfielder Himad Abdelli from Angers, as the winter transfer window enters its final days.
Negotiations between the two clubs have intensified, with both sides reportedly nearing an agreement.
Abdelli, whose contract with Angers expires in June, has long been identified by Marseille as a key target.
The Algerian international has impressed in Ligue 1 with his technical skills, versatility, and work rate, qualities that fit the style of coach Roberto De Zerbi. Discussions with the player were reportedly positive from the start, with Abdelli expressing a clear preference to join Marseille.
The main hurdle has been Angers’ valuation. Initial offers from Marseille were considered too low, and talks stalled as the Ligue 1 club aimed to secure fair compensation for one of its most important players.
Sources indicate that Angers’ demands now range between €3-4 million. A refusal to include Abdelli in matchday squads has further signaled the club’s readiness to negotiate.
Marseille president Pablo Longoria has been firm on not overpaying for a player entering the final six months of his contract, but the latest offer reportedly edges closer to Angers’ expectations.
If a deal is completed, Abdelli could join Marseille immediately and reinforce their midfield for the remainder of the season. Should the move fall through, Marseille retain the option to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.
With time running out, both clubs face pressure to conclude the deal before the window closes. The coming days are likely to determine whether Abdelli’s move to the south coast of France becomes a reality this winter.
