Ramiz Zerrouki has made a successful return to competitive football with Feyenoord after weeks of recovery following an injury.
The Algerian international played a pivotal role in his team’s 4-1 victory over Groningen, a match that marked his highly anticipated comeback on the field.
Reflecting on his long-awaited return, Zerrouki shared his emotions with the Dutch media, admitting the immense relief he felt: “It’s an incredible feeling to be back, because this is what I’ve worked so hard for for a long time.” Having spent several weeks sidelined, Zerrouki likened his comeback to a rebirth, explaining, “When that moment comes, you feel like a child who is allowed to go out again. I think I brought good energy to the team.”
Though Feyenoord encountered some initial difficulties in the match, Zerrouki stressed the importance of regaining control after a challenging start.
“We went through a difficult moment, and we had to regain control of the match. I think we managed to do that well,” he noted.
The midfielder also contributed to his team’s success, providing an assist for Igor Paixão’s third goal.
However, Zerrouki expressed his desire to have scored the goal himself.
“I would have liked to have scored that goal, but an assist is always a pleasure, of course,” he said with a smile.
During his recovery, Zerrouki admitted he deeply missed being on the pitch.
“I really missed playing football. From the gym, you always look outside and think, ‘I want to be there too,'” he explained.
From the sidelines, Zerrouki had been eagerly following the action, particularly enjoying the goals from his teammates, including Anis Hadj Moussa, with whom he shares the Fennecs jersey.
“We know that Igor and Anis can do this. It’s magnificent to see them succeed.
If I had to choose, I would say that Igor’s goal was the most beautiful,” Zerrouki commented.
Looking ahead, Zerrouki expressed his satisfaction with his adaptation to Feyenoord’s coaching style under Robin van Persie.
“I’ve spoken with him a lot. He’s very clear about what he expects from everyone, and I like that.
He knows exactly what he wants me to do in my position: be available between the lines and defend up front.
These are two essential aspects that I need to maintain in my game.”
Zerrouki’s return is seen as a significant boost for Feyenoord, and fans will be hoping for more contributions from the Algerian as the season progresses.
