Alexis Guendouz seeks MC Alger exit after losing first-team place
Algerian international goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz has reportedly decided to leave MC Alger less than a year after arriving as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and one of the marquee signings of the summer.
The 29-year-old joined the reigning Algerian champions with high expectations and the ambition of establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.
However, despite helping the club secure the league title, his first season in Algiers has taken an unexpected direction.
While MC Alger can celebrate another domestic crown, Guendouz’s personal campaign has been marked by setbacks that gradually altered his position within the team.
An injury initially disrupted his season and opened the door for another goalkeeper to make his mark. During Guendouz’s absence, Abdellatif Ramdane seized the opportunity and produced a series of impressive performances that significantly changed the hierarchy between the posts.
The young goalkeeper established himself with a string of convincing displays, earning the confidence of the coaching staff and strengthening his claim to the starting role. Even after Guendouz returned to full fitness, the situation did not change.
As the season progressed, the former CR Belouizdad goalkeeper found himself playing a reduced role, eventually slipping behind Ramdane in the pecking order during the decisive stages of the campaign.
The shift has not been limited to club football. Competition between the two goalkeepers has also extended to the Algerian national team setup.
In a further indication of Ramdane’s growing status, the goalkeeper was recently selected as part of Algeria’s travelling group to Kansas City as a reserve member of the squad. The selection highlighted the contrasting trajectories experienced by both players over the course of the season.
According to reports, Guendouz has now reached a decision regarding his future. Despite having a contract with MC Alger that runs until June 2027, he has reportedly informed the club’s management of his intention to leave during the summer transfer window.
The goalkeeper is said to be seeking an amicable agreement that would allow both parties to terminate the contract and give him the opportunity to restart his career elsewhere.
If an agreement is reached, it would bring a swift end to his time at MC Alger. Having joined the club following a spell in the Iranian league, Guendouz had hoped to re-establish himself as a leading figure in Algerian football.
Instead, after only one season with the club, the Algerian international now appears to be preparing for a new chapter away from the league champions.
