Ilan Kebbal scored a dramatic late penalty as Paris FC came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Olympique de Marseille on matchday 20 of Ligue 1, dealing another blow to a visiting side still recovering from European disappointment.
The Algerian attacking midfielder started for Paris FC at the Stade Jean-Bouin and played a decisive role in a contest that swung late, while Marseille’s Amine Gouiri began the match on the bench.
Kebbal’s equaliser deep into stoppage time capped a tense finale and marked his seventh league goal of the season.
Marseille had looked in control for long periods after taking the lead midway through the first half. Mason Greenwood opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, calmly converting after a foul inside the area.
The visitors doubled their advantage shortly after the interval when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished from close range in the 53rd minute, again supplied by Greenwood.
With Marseille seemingly cruising, Paris FC struggled to break through until the closing stages. Gouiri was introduced in the 67th minute, replacing Aubameyang, as Marseille sought to manage the game and protect their two-goal cushion.
The momentum shifted in the 83rd minute when Ikoné headed home to reduce the deficit for the hosts, injecting belief into the Paris FC side.
Moments later, a slip from Kebbal allowed Marseille to launch a counter-attack, but Gouiri’s effort flew just over the crossbar, missing the chance to restore a two-goal lead.
Paris FC pressed forward in search of an equaliser, and it arrived in dramatic fashion in stoppage time.
Kebbal delivered a dangerous cross into the penalty area, where Geubbels was fouled by goalkeeper Rulli. The referee pointed to the spot without hesitation.
Kebbal stepped up himself in the fourth minute of added time and made no mistake, sending the ball into the top corner to level the score at 2-2.
The goal sparked celebrations among the home supporters, as the midfielder scored against the club from his hometown.
The result leaves Marseille frustrated after surrendering a commanding position, while Paris FC were rewarded for their late pressure.
For Kebbal, the goal adds to an impressive individual campaign, with seven goals and five assists so far this season, and underlines his growing influence in the Paris FC side.
