Algerian national team goalkeeper, Anthony Mandrea, disclosed that he faced severe criticism following the team’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), an experience unprecedented in his football career.
In an exclusive interview with the French outlet “Ouest France” on Saturday, Mandrea highlighted that the Algerian press pointed fingers at the players, holding them responsible for the continental failure.
Addressing the criticisms directed at him personally, Mandrea remarked, “It’s easy to blame the goalkeeper and say he didn’t stop the ball, but despite this, I received numerous messages of support.”
In conclusion, he expressed his apologies to the Algerian audience through posts on social media platforms, solely because “the Algerian people have supported me on many occasions, and for a year and a half, I rarely faced criticism.”
