Algerian forward Rayan Kolli linked with Leicester move as Marti Cifuentes nears appointment

Rayan Kolli could be set for a surprise switch to Leicester City, as the Championship side move closer to appointing Marti Cifuentes as their new manager.

The 20-year-old Algerian forward, currently with Queens Park Rangers, has emerged as a serious target for the Foxes, according to London World.

The young striker, who rose to prominence under Cifuentes at QPR, has attracted growing interest following an impressive spell last season in the Championship.

Known for his maturity on the ball and sharp instinct in front of goal, Kolli developed significantly under the Spanish coach’s guidance — a relationship that could soon be renewed at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester’s pursuit of Kolli appears closely tied to Cifuentes’ impending arrival. The Spaniard, who is expected to be officially announced as Enzo Maresca’s successor, has built a reputation for favouring players he knows and trusts — and Kolli fits that mould perfectly.

During their time together in West London, the young Algerian showed a level of composure and attacking flair that belied his age, quickly earning the manager’s confidence.

The departure of club icon Jamie Vardy has left a significant gap in Leicester’s attacking ranks, and the club’s recruitment strategy now centres on young, dynamic forwards who can offer long-term value. Kolli, who recently extended his contract with QPR, could present both a tactical solution and a symbolic signing.

His potential move would inevitably draw comparisons to Riyad Mahrez, another Algerian who became a cult hero in Leicester after helping the club to its historic Premier League title in 2016.

Fueling further speculation, Kolli was absent from QPR’s pre-season training camp in Spain, a detail that has not gone unnoticed by fans and media alike. While no official reason has been provided, the timing of his absence has only strengthened rumours of a potential transfer.

Despite having signed a contract extension with QPR, the possibility of linking up again with Cifuentes and stepping into the limelight at Leicester may prove too tempting to resist.

For QPR, however, losing one of their most promising talents would be a significant blow ahead of the new season. The club had hoped to build around Kolli’s development, especially after his breakout performances last term.

From Leicester’s perspective, securing Kolli’s signature would represent both a calculated footballing decision and a nod to the club’s proud connection with Algerian talent.

Although no deal has been finalised, the Foxes are expected to step up their interest as soon as Cifuentes’ appointment is made official.

With the summer transfer window now in full swing, the coming days could prove pivotal. As Cifuentes prepares for a new chapter at the King Power Stadium, all eyes will be on whether Rayan Kolli — his former protégé — will be joining him in the East Midlands.
