Eintracht Frankfurt fell 3-2 to Qarabag on Wednesday in their seventh UEFA Champions League group-stage match, but Algerian substitute Farès Chaibi made his mark by scoring a crucial goal.
Chaibi entered the pitch in the 71st minute and immediately injected energy into Frankfurt’s attack.
Seven minutes later, he calmly converted a penalty to bring the German side back into the contest, briefly reducing Qarabag’s lead and sparking hope of a late comeback.
Beyond his goal, Chaibi was active in the final third, registering another shot and showing strong positional awareness during his 20 minutes on the field.
Despite the Algerian’s contribution, Frankfurt could not overturn the deficit.
Qarabag held firm, securing a vital victory and leaving Frankfurt’s hopes of advancing from the group stage under pressure.
Chaibi’s performance, a bright spot for the visitors, was rated 4.0, highlighting his impact in a short period.
This match underscores Frankfurt’s ongoing struggles in Europe this season, even with key contributions from emerging talents like Chaibi, who was recently part of Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations squad.
The defeat leaves Frankfurt needing a strong response in their remaining group fixtures to remain in contention for the knockout stages.
