Anis Hadj Moussa’s potential move to Lille collapsed after the Algerian forward failed to respond to the club’s attempts to finalize the deal, according to L’Équipe.
The 22-year-old, who remains under contract with Feyenoord until 2029, was identified as a key target for Lille as they sought a long-term replacement for Edon Zhegrova.
With the club sitting fourth in Ligue 1 and already assured of a place in the Champions League last 16, Lille were prepared to trigger Hadj Moussa’s €10 million release clause.
Breakdown in Communication
Negotiations initially progressed, with Lille reaching an agreement with Hadj Moussa’s representatives.
However, the player himself became unresponsive, failing to answer calls or messages from the club.
The situation came to a head on January 29, when Hadj Moussa arrived at Stade Pierre-Mauroy with Feyenoord for their Champions League clash against Lille—a match that ended in a heavy 6-1 defeat for the Dutch side. It was only after this game that he reignited interest in the move.
Lille Decide Against Signing
By then, Lille’s patience had run out. Club president Olivier Létang and head coach Bruno Genesio viewed Hadj Moussa’s silence as a sign of disrespect and opted to walk away from the transfer.
Despite his clear talent, Hadj Moussa’s handling of the situation ultimately cost him the opportunity to secure a move to Ligue 1.
The Algerian international, who has three caps for his country, had previously stated his ambition to play in the Premier League—an aspiration that may now take longer to materialize.
