The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has firmly dismissed rumors circulating on social media regarding the alleged termination of head coach Vladimir Petkovic’s contract. This rumor emerged a few weeks after a mixed set of results for the national team.

On Saturday, a document surfaced online, purportedly an official press release from the FAF, claiming that Petkovic and the federation had mutually agreed to part ways just three months into his tenure. The document also suggested that the FAF had initiated a search for his successor.

Despite a disappointing 1-2 home defeat against Guinea, which was followed by a 2-1 victory in Uganda that helped Algeria regain control of their 2026 World Cup qualifying group, the document was quickly identified as a forgery. The FAF responded swiftly with a strong denial.

“The Algerian Football Federation denounces the unfortunate smear campaign orchestrated against the national team using fake accounts on social media to carry out their hideous propaganda for ulterior motives.

At a time when the national team is gradually regaining its stability and performance, this evidently displeases certain circles known for their grotesque actions and attempts at destabilization.

The Algerian Football Federation reassures fans of the national team that the staff led by national coach Mr. Vladimir Petkovic has the full confidence of the federal body and will support him to the end to help him achieve the outlined objectives,” the FAF stated, reaffirming its support for Petkovic.

In addition to expressing their unwavering support for the coach, the FAF announced plans to take legal action against the creators of the false document. “The Algerian Football Federation will spare no effort to preserve the stability of the national team and will prosecute the author of the false account,” the federation declared.

This incident comes at a critical time for Algerian football as the team works to secure its place in the 2026 World Cup. The FAF’s decisive response aims to protect the team’s focus and stability amidst ongoing preparations.

Petkovic, despite facing criticism, remains at the helm with the federation’s backing, as they strive to achieve their ambitious goals on the international stage.

As the national team heads into a crucial period, the FAF’s firm stance against misinformation and its commitment to legal action underscore the importance of maintaining integrity and focus within the squad.

The federation’s reassurance to fans and support for Petkovic are crucial as Algeria looks to build on recent performances and secure their World Cup qualification.
