Algerian international Youcef Belaïli could still have a future with the national team, according to Said Fellak, the communications officer of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF).
Despite his strong performances at club level, Belaïli has not received a call-up since Vladimir Petkovic took charge of the national team following Algeria’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, FAF has now sent an indirect message to the 32-year-old winger, hinting that he remains under consideration.
Belaïli, who has amassed 54 caps and nine goals for Algeria, has been in impressive form this season with Espérance Tunis.
On Wednesday, he contributed a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over Zarzis, bringing his season tally to 11 goals and 12 assists in 22 appearances.
With such statistics, his potential return to the national team remains a major topic of discussion.
Petkovic keeps options open
Since taking over, Petkovic has been repeatedly asked about Belaïli’s absence from the squad.
While he has yet to include the winger in his plans, the Swiss-Bosnian coach has not ruled out a recall.

Speaking on Echourouk TV, FAF’s Said Fellak reiterated this stance, confirming that Petkovic is still monitoring Belaïli.
With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers approaching, Algeria will face Botswana and Mozambique in March.
As the squad announcement nears, Belaïli’s continued club-level performances could force Petkovic’s hand.
Belaïli’s case remains open
Although his absence from the national team has raised questions, Belaïli has remained focused on his performances with Espérance Tunis.
His attacking contributions have made him one of the standout players in the Tunisian league, further strengthening his case for a return to international football.
While Petkovic has emphasized the need for consistency and discipline in squad selection, Belaïli’s on-field brilliance continues to make him a potential asset for Algeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
For now, the final decision rests with the coach.
However, if Belaïli maintains his current form, the possibility of a recall remains very much alive.
