Algerian football federation holds workshop with FIFA to study VAR implementation

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has disclosed its convening of a workshop with representatives from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), aimed at studying the feasibility of implementing Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in Algerian football matches.

According to a statement released by the FAF on its official website, the workshop took place at the National Center for the Preparation of National Teams in Sidi Moussa on Tuesday.

It involved members of the FAF’s project team dedicated to studying the implementation of VAR and representatives from FIFA, including VAR project manager Michael Bailey and the senior official responsible for football technology development, Bhavesh Morgan.

The FAF statement clarified that the workshop was attended by a delegation from public television, with the primary objective being the exchange of expertise and knowledge to explore the possibility of applying VAR technology in Algeria.

The agenda of the workshop primarily focused on studying the assistance and approval program regarding the implementation of VAR for referees.

The FAF emphasized in its statement that the workshop represents a significant step in the process of introducing VAR technology to Algerian football, with the aim of adopting it starting from the 2024-2025 season.
