Tensions have escalated between VfL Wolfsburg and the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) regarding the participation of Mohamed Amoura with the national team.
Wolfsburg has expressed frustration over Amoura’s call-up to the Algerian squad for the ongoing international break.
The German club had hoped that Amoura would use this period to focus on his recovery and conditioning after suffering a knee injury during pre-season.
This setback has prevented the striker from making his debut for Wolfsburg since his €18 million transfer from Union Saint-Gilloise.
Despite the club’s concerns, Amoura has been included in the squad by Algerian coach Vladimir Petkovic.
The 24-year-old is set to feature in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where Algeria will face Equatorial Guinea in Oran on Thursday and Liberia in Monrovia the following Tuesday.
The situation has been further complicated by recent images released by the FAF showing Amoura participating fully in training sessions with the national team.
This has only intensified Wolfsburg’s frustration, given their priority is Amoura’s rehabilitation and readiness for his Bundesliga debut.
Reports from German media suggest that Wolfsburg has made several attempts to negotiate an exemption for Amoura from this international duty.
However, these requests have reportedly been ignored by the FAF, adding to the club’s displeasure.
The lack of response from the Algerian football authorities is viewed as an unsporting move, particularly as Wolfsburg remains in contention for a top position in the Bundesliga.
The situation highlights the ongoing challenges in managing player availability and health amid international fixtures.
For now, all eyes are on how Amoura performs with the Fennecs and how this situation will affect his relationship with his club and national team in the future.
