Borussia Dortmund produced a dominant display to secure a 4-0 win over Wolfsburg, with Ramy Bensebaini playing a crucial role in one of the goals as Edin Terzić’s side extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
The left-back, deployed in a more advanced role, registered his seventh assist of the Bundesliga season by setting up Karim Adeyemi’s second goal of the evening.
Though Adeyemi did much of the work himself, Bensebaini’s well-placed pass in the build-up contributed to the third goal in Dortmund’s emphatic victory.
The result marked Dortmund’s fourth consecutive league win following a draw against Bayern Munich and solidified their recent surge in form.
Since manager Niko Kovac transitioned the side to a back-three system, Dortmund have looked markedly more cohesive defensively, while showing a renewed sharpness in attack.
At the heart of the win were two impressive braces, one from Serhou Guirassy and the other from Adeyemi, who tormented Wolfsburg’s defence throughout the match.
Guirassy’s composure in front of goal and Adeyemi’s blistering pace and technical finesse proved too much for the visitors, who struggled to contain the relentless pressure from the home side.
The early breakthrough gave Dortmund a foothold in the match, and they never looked back. Wolfsburg, who have recently struggled with consistency, were unable to respond as BVB asserted their control in midfield and dominated possession.
Bensebaini’s contribution was another highlight in what has been a quietly effective campaign for the Algerian international. Known primarily for his defensive attributes, he has added creativity to his game this season and was again instrumental in pushing Dortmund forward from wide areas.
With RB Leipzig held to a draw in their own fixture, Dortmund’s win lifts them provisionally into fourth place, securing a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
They will now await the result of Freiburg’s upcoming clash against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen to see if they retain their position by the end of the weekend.
On the Wolfsburg side, Algerian forward Mohamed Amine Amoura started on the bench for only the second time this season in the Bundesliga.
He was introduced in the 70th minute, but with the game already slipping out of reach, the striker had limited opportunities to make an impact.
Despite the disappointing result for Wolfsburg, they remain mathematically in the hunt for a top-half finish, though they will need to rediscover their attacking spark and tighten up defensively in their remaining fixtures.
As the Bundesliga season approaches its conclusion, Dortmund’s resurgence under Kovac could not have come at a more vital time. With Champions League qualification now within reach, their remaining games will be crucial in determining whether they can sustain this momentum and return to Europe’s elite competition next season.
Super sub Karim Adeyemi scores the third!!!
